Perhaps you're done with your holiday shopping for your loved ones but want to add just another small item to put in the stocking. An affectionate word for an item like this is a "tchochke", which Wikipedia also refers to as " a small bauble, doodad, doohickey, gewgaw, gismo, goolya, kitsch, knickknack, lagniappe, swag, thingamabob, thingamajig, toy, trinket, whatchamacallit, whosie-whatsit, widget, etc". We have many items that can fall into this category, but allow us to suggest a few that any photographer would love to have.

The one filter you would love to have along with the protective UV filter that we suggest you get immediately is a circular polarizing filter, which allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass, etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. This could be the most useful accessory  you can buy for your camera and prices vary depending on the filter size of the lens you buying it for.

You can also get a wireless shutter remote for your camera from Promaster. The Promaster wireless infrared remote control instantly triggers the shutter of your camera & is a MUST HAVE accessory for anyone using a tripod. It's perfect for taking pictures of subjects that are difficult to approach, or for close-up and time exposure photography. It also helps to minimize vibration when using long telephoto lenses so you get much sharper pictures. Available for Nikon & Canon DSLRs for only $20.00!

Or you can get an extra battery for the camera you have or bought as a present . We can think of at least 5 reasons you should have an extra battery for your camera (and so does Kent Weakley in in his photo blog article on this very subject). And a memory card that works seamlessly with your new state of the art camera is very important. You can get a cheap memory card from a pharmacy or convenience store but it will not work properly with your camera, especially if if's used for HD video recording. As we stated in a previous CWS article, all memory cards are not the same!
